We Begin - Sailing Day 1 & 2- Tortola to Virgin Gorda
We finally got started! This is the first time I have found reliable internet service. I tried yesterday for two hours to download our 143 emails.
The Sir Francis Drake channel is like a pond in the park where the kids play with their remote control boats, except this is a big pond and the little boys have bigger toys.
Everywhere you look there are sailboats and none of the marinas appear to have empty spots. I know 5 boats left from our charter service this morning.
We have a captain, Dennis Haggerty, on board to train us on the various parts of the boat and especially me on how to sail the boat. He will get on a ferry tomorrow to return to Tortola.
This is the Sabo Rock Resort in Virgin Gorda
Our Captain Dennis Haggerty. Dennis is a Scottish engineer who lived in South Africa most of his adult life. He and his wife moved to Tortola to be near one of their sons and their only granddaughter.
We had a very eventful day. After leaving Virgin Gorda, we started having trouble with the steering. The Helm kept locking. We finally freed it and got to Anadgoda.
I have really learned quite a bit about sailing. Of course, when you start from scratch, a little knowledge seems significant.
