Jim and Barbara Dickinson and Jerry and Jan Eygendaal planned another adventure.
We were planning to go to Hawaii but
procrastination entered the picture and Jan finally said she had been
there and done that. She wanted to go to Costa Rica.
We took a tour to Cano Island. This entailed a
4:30 AM wakeup to meet the guide at 6 AM. We drove until 7:30 AM,
had breakfast and then a LONG boat ride to arrive at Cano Island about
10 AM.
We snorkeled until lunch time.
A picnic lunch was provided with the best pineapple we have ever eaten!
The return trip was much more leisurely and we toured the mangrove swamp
(shown as next part).
Cano Island
A rocky coast but good
for snorkeling. This was the best we have seen since our trip to
the Bahamas.
Barbara in the surf. The undertow was extreme. The wave
would suck the sand from around your feet and then your feet from under
you.
Tour boats moored in the bay
while everyone has lunch.
Doesn't every beach in the world have a t-shirt shop?
Crab on the beach. Very coarse, pebbly beach.
Beach view
Hermit Crab
The trail to the top of the
island. There is a 3" rope along the side.
More of the very steep trail
The end of the trail for me. Too dark, hot and humid and out of
time. I barely made it to the beach in time to load the boat.
Barnacles clinging to rocks
There are snorkelers in the water
Everyone was required to have a life vest with them because of a recent
incident where a boat ran over a snorkeler.
The entrance to the River Sierpe on the
return trip.
